Story Guidelines

Guidance for temporary and ephemeral posts.

These guidelines cover expectations for temporary and disappearing posts.

Temporary posts are still subject to the rules

Stories are presented in the app as temporary posts. The product help text describes a 24-hour display period; that does not establish when all stored copies, backups, reports, or recipient captures are deleted. Do not use a temporary format to evade moderation or accountability.

  • Obtain consent before posting someone else's image, voice, location, or private information.
  • Do not post intimate imagery, threats, exploitation, or dangerous material.
  • Use the audience and privacy controls shown in the app, and do not promise that a viewer cannot capture or redistribute a Story.
  • Report harmful Stories promptly; include the account and content context if available.

Views and reactions

Story viewing, reactions, and viewer information are feature interactions. The exact visibility, retention, and deletion behavior for those records is not established by the interface alone and must be confirmed before publication as a data practice.

What you can do

  • Temporary content still needs to follow community standards.
  • Respect the privacy and consent of people shown.
  • Do not use disappearing posts to evade enforcement.
